Frost/Nixon, Keira Knightley and The Duchess made BAFTA's Longlist

Variety.com reports that Matthew Macfadyen's film, Frost/Nixon is one of the 2 (along with Brad Pitt's The Curious Case of Benjamin Button) films leading the longlists for the British Academy Film Awards with 14 nominations each.

Keira Knightley's The Duchess made the longlist as well with 9 nominations (including a Leading Actress nod for Keira).

The BAFTA longlists include 15 contenders in each category, from which the five nominees will be chosen in the second round of voting. Once the nominees are finalized, the whole membership votes again to decide the best film, four acting prizes and film not in the English language. In all remaining categories, the members of each chapter (or jury) determine the vote.

The best British film is not included on the longlist, as the whole membership will vote for nominees in the first round and the BAFTA film committee will whittle that number down in the next two.

The shortlist and final nominations will be announced this week on Thursday, January 15, 2009.

The awards will take place Feb. 8 at London’s Royal Opera House.
